The Pogles. By Oliver Postgate.


Pogles Wood was screened by the BBC from 1966 to 1968 as part the BBC's Watch with Mother series.

Prior to this in 1965 the first story in the series "The Pogles" was shown once but never repeated. In many respects this was the best story ever told featuring the Pogles, but it was considered too scary for small children.


There are six episodes in this story.



Episode One.

The Magic Bean



This tells the story of how the magic plant appeared.

The Magic Plant first appeared in "The Pogles" when Mr Pogle was sent by his wife to fetch some beans to plant in the garden.

Plant told stories in "Pogles Wood" and did many a magic feat.

His day normally started with a jug of Bilberry wine which Mr and Mrs Pogle first gave him in an attempt to revive him when he came very close to death.


Plant was very wise and educated.  In addition to magic he could also play a number of musical instruments but notably the violin.
