YOUNG Warrnambool (Victoria, Australia) rockers Airbourne were shearing sheep and pulling pots at their local pub less than a year ago. 

Now the world is at their feet, having just signed a five-album worldwide deal with Capitol Records in what is thought to be the biggest contract for a previously unsigned Australian band. 

"We wanted to sign an overseas deal to get our music to as many people as possible, because everyone in the world deserves rock 'n' roll," singer and lead guitarist Joel O'Keeffe, 22, said yesterday. 

"You can either treat a band as a hobby, or you can live like crap and do it hard, and that time on stage is your fun. If you work hard and get to play every pub in the world, then you've succeeded." 

Airbourne — O'Keeffe, his brother Ryan, 19, on guitar, drummer David Roads, 22, and bassist Justin Street, 18 — have been playing together in different incarnations for years. Joel said they could give up their shearing, but the only things that would change would be the size of venues and audiences.
