 Stormzone is a five piece rock band from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Yes, you read it right - they are from the green island and plays powerful 80s melodic hardrock with AOR traces and they do it good.rnrnThe vocalist John Harv Harbinson has been playing with Sweet Savage, Emerald, No Sweat and Den Of Thieves before forming Stormzone and he has damn fine pipes. The band and album title is great and it really reminds of the 80s. These guys are influenced by bands such as Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Praying Mantis and Journey that you can hear on this album for sure.rnrnrnYes, they mix a sound that reminds of British melodic hardrock with traces of US AOR. The 11 songs on the album are damn good and you won?t find many boring moments, the production is done by Mudd Wallace and sounds good.rnrnI love their mixture of organ and keyboards that gives the songs a powerful sound filled with layers of melodies. The only song that that don?t do much for me is the Deep Purple-esque rocker "Nervous Breakdown" that is just average.rnrnHighlights on the album are "Crying In The Rain", this is a great AOR-rocker with strong melodies plus "Hold On To Her Love" with heavy guitarriffs and a good chorus.rnrnrnThe powerballad "Stranger Things Have Happened" is great with good harmony vocals in the chorus. "Beating Of The Heart" is a brilliant AOR song that reminds of Praying Mantis meets Journey with some dut-dut keyboards and a catchy chorus with strong harmonies, brilliant AOR-rocker. Listen to the outstanding organparts on "New World", fans of Deep Purple will jump of joy. "Tuggin At My Heartstrings" is another brilliant AOR-rocker.rnrnThis is a song with fantastic melodies filled with damn fine hooklines and a powerful chorus with classy background vocals.rnrnWe?re talking airguitar warning on "Sky High", yes this is a song that is filled with heavy impressive riffs and a huge chorus with powerful background vocals, great rocker.rnrnThe Irish rockers Stromzone has done a helluva debut album that will surprise many - not only me. This is really good stuff that should be checked out by fans of British melodic hardrock with traces of AOR.
