No, your eyes aren't deceiving you, it really is a new comedy from Peter Kay. Blue moons come round more often than TV projects from the creator of Phoenix Nights, so it's no wonder his latest offering dominates Channel 4's peak-time schedule tonight. It's a no-doubt affectionate satire (the full title is Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice) on the current boom in glittery talent shows, complete with a "results" programme later on. Kay (who also writes and directs) plays Geraldine, a contestant with a secret - she used to be a bloke called Gerry. Cat Deeley (remember her? She's big in LA now) appears as the show's presenter and Neil Fox, Nicki Chapman and Pete Waterman play the judges. Personally this is the comedy event of the week, if not the season.
